HMGS, Inc's Hobby University®
HMGS, Inc.’s Hobby University® (originally the Painting University) was created when a need was discovered within the historical miniatures hobby for additional education on painting miniatures.
The University debuted at Historicon 2005 and has grown to encompass not only painting, but also sculpting, terrain construction, 3D Modeling and many aspects of miniature modeling.
Our talented and dedicated volunteers and guests are dedicated to teaching painting and modelling techniques. Our teachers are skilled in a wide variety of styles so you are sure to find something you like.
We offer classes for every level of hobbyist; from youth to adult beginner to experienced painters looking to add to their skill set.

Paint & Take
With a selection of miniatures from our sponsors to choose from, participants receive one (1) free miniature.Â
Our staff will be on hand for tutorials, just ask. Additionally, feel free to bring miniatures painted at home for gentle critique and helpful hints for improving your skills.Â
As always, this event is free for all; it is walk-up and available whenever Hobby University is open at the convention!
Iron Paintbrush
If you have never experienced the Iron Paintbrush at Hobby University®, you are missing out. The Iron Paintbrush event is at Historicon on Saturday night.
Players receive a bag of materials and must assemble and paint a diorama which best captures the event theme.
