Subtitle: Intelligence Officer for SOE, OSS, and CIA
Here’s a bio of someone I never heard off, but apparently had a promising start with the OSS in Yugoslavia and mixed success and failure during the Cold War. He certainly got around in South America, Europe, and Asia planning and executing various schemes as only the CIA can envision.
Tofte argued against the Bay of Pigs invasion and the use of body counts as a measure of success in Vietnam. He preferred a softer approach that had worked in Yugoslavia, but was overruled.
The book contains 14 black and white photos, one black and white illustration, and two black and white maps.
It’s a pleasant read and contains some fodder for Cold War spy RPGs that would take place in the shadows.
Enjoyed it.
