Era by era, the equipment, organization, and tactics of the Roman cavalry receive the usual well-executed overview. The main periods are: Republic (pre-27BC), Early Principate (27BC to 117AD), High (117-192AD) and Late Principate (192-284AD), and Dominate (284-476AD).
Each period follows the same category format: Situational introduction, Strategic Deployment, Tactical and Formation Deployments, Notable Actions, and Arms and Equipment. As the periods change, so too are changes noted in each category.
My only complaint is that a scale does not show on the maneuver diagrams. I mean, I can guess by looking at the individuals in the illustration, but it’d be nice to confirm my estimate.
Otherwise, the booklet contains one black and white photo, 40 color photos, 12 black and white illustrations, and 27 color illustrations.
It’s a nice introduction to Roman cavalry tactics through the ages.
Enjoyed it.
