I thought this was some sort of extension of the story that Hitler escaped and was running a deli in Buenos Aires. Was I wrong. Instead, this is a “forensic” examination of locating the charred remains of Hitler and Mrs. Hitler (Eva Braun). It’s main source is Elena Rzhevskaya, a Soviet translator who was tasked with helping find the bodies and was in Berlin and on chancellery grounds immediately after capture.
Inside the pages, you will find a conspiracy, only it was Stalin’s insistence that Hitler’s demise be kept secret, which led to all the TV brouhahas about escape to Spain, or South America, or the secret Nazi base in Antarctica.
Transcript passages, interrogations, and medical examinations are included, especially with Hitler’s valet, chauffeur, mechanic, dentist, and various aides. Much of this was translated by Rzhevskaya, who was also a witness to various battle, escape, and medical exam events.
The book contains 24 black and white photos.
Getting through the extensive excerpts required some fortitude, for this is not the smooth prose of fiction, but the harsh details of reality.
How Hitler and Braun were identified and what happened to their remains proved fascinating.
