Subtitle: Operation Market Garden 1944
Although both designs began in 1941 to create an uparmored and upgunned tank, and both had considerable problems with early production, but the Germans proved far better at following through with mass production. The Challenger was considered a stopgap effort and only 200 vehicles were ordered. The Panther, is, well, the Panther of legend and reality.
This volume follows the usual Duel format of design, development, tech specs, and context of the combats. In these two tanks’ cases, they met during Operation Market Garden, although only minimally at the Battle of Son in the Netherlands during Operation Market Garden.
The booklet contains 47 black and white photos, three color photos, six color illustrations, two color maps, three color Challenger camouflage illustrations, three color Panther camouflage illustrations, one color two-page illustration, and two color gunner-eyeview illustrations.
It’s concise, well written and full of illustrations — another excellent volume in the Osprey lineup.
Enjoyed it.
